Hello,
A huge thank you to all those
who responded to our survey in the last Take Action newsletter.
We received many insightful comments and suggestions and as a
result have re-named our newsletter "Walking Forwards".
We will still provide you with monthly updates on our campaigns
but Walking Forwards will contain a wealth of other information
including:
- A diary of upcoming walking events;
- bite-sized news articles;
- details of new paths and laws;
- competitions and special offers including books you can buy
from the Ramblers.
Please send any comments to newsletter@ramblers.org.uk and let
us know what you think!
Thanks, The Ramblers Team.

A Victory for Common Sense
For more years than we can remember, the RA has argued that all
planning application forms should contain a question about the
existence of public rights of way on land proposed for
development. As from 6 April 2008 (in England) there is going to
be a standard form which will require applicants to provide
details of public rights of way. In addition, new guidance will
require the submission of a plan showing all public rights of
way crossing or adjacent to the site. This will ensure that
paths are discovered and considered by applicants early in the
planning process and allow the local authority to assess the
impact of the scheme on them.
This is a real victory for common sense. Keep an eye on your
planning authority’s website to make sure that they are
following these new requirements.
House of
Lords' decision puts path on map
A Cambridgeshire path which was instrumental in securing
public access rights to footpaths around the country, has
finally been recognised as a public right of way itself after an
eight year battle which included a public inquiry, three court
hearings and a breakthrough House of Lords ruling.
In June 2007, five Law Lords delivered a landmark ruling which
means that, in future, actions to stop paths being recognised as
public rights of way will have to be transparent.
Visit our website for more information on this ground-breaking
case, and don’t forget that we rely on the generosity of our
members and supporters to enable us to embark on such action.

help.
