General Council
The Ramblers is a company limited by guarantee, and General Council is the body of people who are defined as company members for Companies Act and other legal purposes. Members of General Council are entitled to attend the annual general meeting, but remain company members at other times.
Our annual general meeting is commonly referred to as General Council.
General Council AGM 2025
The 2025 General Council AGM will take place on Saturday 5 April at the Birmingham NEC. The programme and timings will be published later in the year.
The Board’s mid-year update on the four motions passed at the 2024 AGM is now available. A full update on all open motions will be published in March 2025 in the papers for next year’s General Council AGM.

The key dates and deadlines for the AGM are:
- 22 February - Deadline for receipt of nominations and Council member motions
- 26 February - Motions shared on website for Area review
- 3 March - Deadline for Council member registration
- 7 March - Despatch of GC notice, papers and proxy form
- 1 April - Deadline for receipt of motion amendments and appeals
- 2 April - Deadline for receipt of proxies
- 3 April - Amendments report shared with Council members
- 5 April - General Council AGM
