General Council

The Ramblers is a company limited by guarantee, and General Council is the body of people who are defined as company members for Companies Act and other legal purposes.  Members of General Council are entitled to attend the annual general meeting, but remain company members at other times.

Our annual general meeting is commonly referred to as General Council.

A list of our current Council members (as of 29 October 2025) is available below.

General Council Conference: 6 December 2025

Further to the update sent on 29 October by Lucy Robinson on behalf of the Board of Trustees to Council members and Area officers, all Council members are invited to attend a General Council Conference which will take place on Saturday 6 December 2025. The venue is Senate House, University of London, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU. The Conference will start at 11am (refreshments and networking from 10.30am) and finish no later than 4pm.

The Conference (which is not a formal General Meeting as defined by our constitution) is open to all Council members.

All Council members are invited to attend and to register for the Conference at https://general-council-conference-2025.eventbrite.co.uk by 14 November 2025.

As always, reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed and accommodation can be arranged for those who need it.

Supporting documents for this Conference, including updated draft Articles of Association and Standing Orders, will be sent on Friday 14 November 2025 and published on this webpage.

A list of current Council members for 2025/26 is available above.  A number of Areas did not appoint one or all of their allotted Council members ahead of the April 2025 Annual General Meeting. Should an Area wish to appoint a member to fill a vacancy or to replace an existing Council member, they can do so by giving notice in writing to the Head of Governance
