We are a very friendly group that walks on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays (when there is a 5th) each month. We cover a wide area that includes the Cheviots in the Northumberland National Park, the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty coast and the countryside in between. We usually follow marked footpaths, though in the Cheviots, where there is Access Land, we don’t always need to stick to rights of way.
Our walks start at 10.00 a.m. and vary in length from 6-11 miles with grades of difficulty ranging from leisurely through to more demanding. The more strenuous walks tend to be in the hills.
To join a walk, all you need to do is contact the walk leader to book a place from the Monday beforehand.
Walking in Alnwick
We are lucky to have the most wonderful, varied landscapes nearby, from wild hills and valleys, to the coast with its sweeping sandy beaches and magnificent castles. Besides the chance to enjoy the great vistas these landscapes offer, the walks provide good exercise with a variety of lengths and degree of difficulty to suit all tastes.
We love to see regular faces but also welcome new walkers and Ramblers members from other groups. Our walks provide the opportunity to socialise along the way and over the packed lunch break, with people sharing their knowledge of the social and natural history of our area or just enjoying a chat. Depending on the walk location, we sometimes finish at a tearoom.
