You are invited to a Sherry Evening with your fellow walkers, dress up, let your hair down, and have a really amazing night out.
It’s a Conversatzione; Dress code is de rigueur (We won’t mind if you ignore this instruction but we won’t mind if you follow it either; it’s a joke as is the picture). In the course of your conversations with others you could perhaps talk about how Ramblers could be made even better.
We have extended the invitation to our fellow neighbours, the Loughborough Ramblers with whom we often walk so that they too will be able join in the fun and have a memorable time. So, it won’t be a stuffy, boring gathering of Hooray Henrys, although it will have an element of tongue in cheek as per the picture.
We do hope that you will be able to attend and look forward to seeing you. Thanks
Further detail:
Who can come?
You don't have to be a Coalville Rambler to come but you do have to at the least have a passing interest in Rambling. So this includes Partners and friends of Ramblers because we hope they will join us one day and other local Groups, e.g. Loughborough Ramblers, Leicestershire Area Ramblers, East Staffordshire Ramblers, any other nearby Groups and any others that I've missed off.
When, where ?
7 pm on 12 January 2024
The Priest House, Castle Donington, DE74 2RR
(///finer.gears.warping).
Dress code is: “as you like” :
I’ve been told some are going to appear in their best walking boots (not me, I have shoes) and others in full sequinned long dress (not me either) like the picture below, i.e. De rigeur is a joke, you can come as you like
Transport ?
For those who have transport difficulties please let me know because there are a number of drivers around Coalville who can accommodate passengers. Some people are staying the night, its only £60 per room; contact The Priest House, https://thepriesthouse.co.uk/
Conversazione ?
Over Sherry (or any other drink) discussion of controversial issues about Ramblers is encouraged, the idea is to get the issues out in the open and listen, but be tolerant; you’re not going to agree with everyone, i.e.. it’s a Conversazione.
Glasses of sweet or dry Sherry (or orange) are available from a table in the Lounge and it is expected that the event will migrate to the adjoining bar as the evening progresses.
Food ?
If you are peckish, there is also a top class restaurant and a bar restaurant.
A photo of the Priest House Lounge appears below. There's also a picture of a Sherry evening in the 1950's, I'm not expecting our Sherry evening to look quite like that.
However it’s looking like there’ll be a good crowd and some are dressing up so we look forward to welcoming you, however you look.
