Lanchester has a long history. At the time of the Roman invasion in the1st Century the powerful Brigantes inhabited this area. On their northward march the Romans built Dere Street from York to Hadrian’s Wall at Corbridge. A staging post was established at Longovicium – now Lanchester. Walking here is good and sometimes, on previous walks, we have had a dusting of snow. And the village green will welcome us with its wonderfully lit christmas tree and lights.
Our coach will drop parties of walkers and leaders from their starting point and all walks will finish at our destination today.
There will be a choice of walks - graded Easy, Leisurely, Moderate and Strenuous for you to choose from.
Details of the walks will be available from our webpage and will also be passed round the coach on the day.
