This is a circular walk exploring the beautiful North Wessex Downs, close to the Hampshire-Wiltshire border. The beginning of the walk takes us up and over into the lovely Hippenscombe Valley. Following the Valley, we stop for our morning break before climbing the downs to enjoy far reaching views across the Vale of Pewsey. On our return journey after lunch at Tidcombe, we stick to the high ground admiring the Valley from on high. We cross the Chute Causeway (a Roman Road) before visiting Fosbury and its enigmatic Iron Age enclosure.
This is a picnic walk. Please bring drinks and snacks for a morning break and a picnic lunch, according to your taste.
This is a fairly long and hilly walk with three climbs up onto the downs. We walk mainly on good paths and tracks with some sections on the grass of the downs and some on the quiet Valley road.
Please let the leader know you are coming as we may set off early, if all known walkers have arrived.
