Walk details
This is an exact copy of the first ever BW walk with 17 hikers on February 26th 2000, after which a committee was formed at a meeting inside Knowl Hill Village Hall.
We walk through the charming countryside around Knowl Hill, following the Knowl Hill Bridleway Circuit through Cayton Park, past Warren Row and up Ashley Hill, where we will stop for lunch, before heading back down into the village.
If anyone wants to go for a drink afterwards there is a nice pub, the Bird in Hand, about 10 mins walk (half a mile) down the road towards Kiln Green / Twyford, and there is a bus stop outside.
Travel by public transport
Knowl Hill can be reached by the #127 bus from Maidenhead or Twyford, or #234 bus from Maidenhead, but please note these don't run very often throughout the day.
From Reading, we recommend catching the 09:43 train which arrives in Maidenhead at 09:55, and then catching the #127 bus from Maidenhead Railway Station (stop RA) at 10:17, which arrives at Knowl Hill (Bath Road) at 10:29.
We should finish the walk in time for the 13:18 (#127) or the 13:32 (#234) buses from Knowl Hill (Bath Road) which go to Maidenhead and take about 15 mins. If you want to stay for a drink after, or we miss those buses, the next bus is the 14:29 (#127) which goes to Twyford, arriving at Twyford (Crossroads) at 14:47, which is about a 5 min walk from the station. There is also a bus at 15:18 (#127) going to Maidenhead.
Travel by car
There are a few places to park in Knowl Hill: either on Knowl Hill Common next to the church, or Bath Road by David Hunt tools. We suggest car sharing where possible, so there are enough spaces.
Advice
Please bring a packed lunch.
It will likely be muddy, please wear boots.
Dogs
