Overview

On the 19th October we will be celebrating Cunninghame Ramblers 40th Anniversary. This group was started by Bruce and Rita Riddell, and we believe the first walk was the Irvine New Town Trail. Hence the reason for this walk on our anniversary.

We will meet in Eglinton Park.  Across from the car park, is a wooden shelter which is where we will gather. Toilets should be open at the visitor centre.

The route is from Eglinton park, through suburbs of Irvine, joining the cycle track at Dreghorn, along the river into the town, across Irvine Moor, then continuing along the cycle track back to Eglinton Park.

Grade : C + /B leisurely to moderate (because of distance).  The paths are gravel paths or tarmac, fairly flat, with the only climb up to the standing stone in Eglinton Park (about 100ft). The path in the park may be a little muddy in places.

There is no opportunity to buy food and drinks until we reach Irvine, hopefully we will have had our coffee and lunch by then though. We will go into the Rivergate( Irvine) to use the toilets if necessary.

You can shorten the walk by getting a bus back to Kilwinning and walking into Eglinton park from there to your car.  You will need to make your own way to the bus ( No 11 to Ardrossan ) from Dreghorn. This is approximately 6 miles from the start and  the first opportunity to catch a bus. After this there are lots of opportunities to get a bus, until we reach Sandy Road ( at the end of the moor, behind Ravenspark Academy).

There is a walk of 15-20 minute walk from the bus stop in Kilwinning  to the car park in Eglinton Park.

YOU MUST let me know you are coming on this walk.   Mobile phone Number : 07889788951.

Lets hope the weather is kind to us.
