This walk starts in the AL10 postcode and therefore completing the HWW target of walking from every postcode in Hertfordshire.
This walk takes us around the area to the north of the former Hatfield Aerodrome, notable for being home of the De Havilland Mosquito fighter bomber. Indeed many wartime fighter pilots used to frequent the nearby Chequers public house, now known as the Crooked Chimney
We start at Hatfield Garden Village, which was created in 1935 to house workers in the aircraft industry and then pass through Symondshyde Great Wood. Picking up the Hertfordshire Way we loop back via Lemsford and the edge of Stanborough.
Unfortunately starting in AL10 meant we could not start and finish at a pub but there will be the opportunity to review your days walk in the Crooked Chimney, which is less than 2 miles away.
Meet outside Green Lanes Primary School, Green Lanes, Hatfield AL10 9JY
Parking is available along Green Lanes and Great Braitch Lane.
There is no need to pre-book or contact the leader in advance. If you are already a Ramblers member, please just bring your Ramblers card (or membership details on the app) to help speed up the Ramblers register before we start the walk.
