This 12 mile circular walk starts from the village of Allerston. Walking along good paths and tracks we head gently uphill into Dalby Forest, where hopefully we will see the trees in their glorious autumn colours. As we leave the forest, we walk on field paths with lovely views over the Vale of Pickering and walk through the village of Wilton, where you can see the remains of the moat that once surrounded Wilton Hall. The final couple of miles are on a fairly quiet country lane and as we near Allerston, we'll see a well preserved bonus feature that made this hiker a happy lass indeed!
🅿️ There is plenty of on street parking available on Main Street near the village hall and St John's Church. Please park with consideration for the local residents, and consider car sharing where possible.
🚌 Allerston is served by the 128 bus between Scarborough and Helmsley, which runs every 2 hours. If you plan to come by bus, it arrives at 09:13 from Scarborough and 09:39 from Pickering/Kirkbymoorside.
🐶 This walk crosses a field that had cattle with calves on the recce, please bear this in mind if you want to bring your dog to the walk.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch.
🍺 After the walk, we can visit The Cayley Arms for a well deserved drink.
