Leaving Patcham and crossing the bypass by a pedestrian bridge, we follow a dead end tarmac lane through a beautiful sinuous downland dry valley beneath The Chattri to Lower Standean farm and then up more steeply to enter Stanmer woods at High Park corner. We then follow mainly firm paths down to Stanmer Village, possibly for a coffee or a mince pie. We then follow the new "access for all " trail to the Park gates, close to Falmer station .
The great majority of the paths are good walking ,but proper boots are still essential for a couple of short muddy sections by gates and in the park. Please bring water and a snack.
This walk is mainly on good gradients, but there is a steeper climb up to High Park Corner and poles will still be useful for many walkers.
Route 5 and 5A very regular from many parts of the City to reach the start. If coming by train they can be caught by walking to St Peters Church from the station. Return possible by 23, 25, 28,29 or from Falmer station.
