We're back in Derbyshire this Sunday in an area we seldom visit but which has much to offer, not least some fine views. Why not join us? You're welcome to do so. If this is your first time with our lot it'd be great if you could let us know beforehand please. Cheers!
Registration: 09.30. Walk start: 09.45.
Woodland tracks and farmland footpaths lead us to a summit viewpoint before we return to base via a different route. Approximately one mile of road walking on quiet lanes. Just five stiles.
This is definitely a walk of two halves. One half up and the other down! The steepest gradients occur in the first couple of miles making this section worthy of a strenuous tag. The remainder is more moderate.
Since The Hurt Arms have kindly allowed us to use their overflow car park there are no prizes for guessing where we'll end up for a swift drink post walk😋😋.
Directions (primarily for our members or anyone approaching from either Derby or Ashbourne).
The start is located on the A6 approximately 10 miles north of Derby. However, due to extensive roadworks disruption and the risk of long diversions the A38 to Derby is best avoided unless you join it at either Barton, or via the A50 & A516 from Sudbury. Below is the alternative main road route via Ashbourne.
From your home location via the A515 northbound to Ashbourne. At the first island on the outskirts of town continue straight on, retail park now on your left, on and keep on this road for 0.85 mile over two small islands (ignoring the signs for the town centre) until the crossroads and lights where straight over onto the A517 signed for Belper. Continue for 12 miles via Hulland Ward, Turnditch, and Blackbrook to reach Belper and the junction with the A6.
Turn left onto the A6 here and proceed for 2.6 miles to Ambergate where The Hurt Arms is located on your left opposite the junction with the A610, some 500 yards after passing under the railway bridge.
Drive past the pub, turn immediate left into the tarmac car park and then into the gravel car park where we have permission to park.
Screenshots of the final approaches and car park entrance appear in the photos.
