Overview

A mainly shaded walk in and around the beautiful woodland of Shining Cliff.

No stiles, nor gates on this walk. Mainly hard surfaces which include three ascents, the first part of Beggars Lane, an easy incline, the second a moderate one third of a mile climb up through the woods to the Pond and a shorter steeper climb from the Pond to join the top Shining Cliff path.

Risk assessment

We will cross over the busy A6 twice at Ambergate, good sight lines here, but take care of those with you. Some paths rocky and have exposed tree roots, which could be slippery if wet. Some minor road walking, take care to keep right and in single file, whilst traffic approaching. Morning break at a high point in Typeclose Plantation. Total ascent and descent 870 feet.
