We are the Dorset 4050 Ramblers. We are a friendly, mixed-age group of walkers.
We shall commence our walk at the car park of Ferndown Forest Golf Club and step out onto the Castleman Trail picking up trails to take us across Holt Heath, we will follow paths through Holt Wood to emerge in Haythorne. We will pass the pumpkins just before lunch which we will take on the outskirts of Chalbury. I hope to visit the 13th Century church at Chalbury before we start our return journey back through Holt Woods, White Sheet and Uddens Plantations.
The walk though 13.75 miles (approximately 22 km) is predominantly flat, with a small number of stiles. The walk uses a mixture of quiet lanes, bridleways and paths, with one short section of boardwalk. Expect some mud in the wooded sections so choose footwear appropriately. There are a number of fallen trees that can be climbed over ducked under or walked around.
Parking is available in the Golf Club car park. Please consider car share to reduce our footprint. There is a cafe and bar at the start location that we may optionally visit at the end or at the begining if you are early.
There are no toilet facilities on the route and please bring a packed lunch. As a rule the group maintain a brisk pace near to 3 mph (5 kmph) but we will be incorporating stops into the walk. I expect to be back to the start for approximately 3.30-3.45pm
