This figure-of-eight walk from the attractive village of Ashdon goes through the gently rolling countryside of north-west Essex, with some fine views along the way. We will go via field-edge & cross-field paths, tracks and quiet country roads, and hopefully see some snowdrops and aconites along the way. Due to the time of year there are likely to be several muddy stretches, so sturdy footwear is essential and poles advisable. There are several stiles on both loops of this walk.
The 6.3 mile morning loop is mainly to the east of Ashdon via Waltons and the windmill, then after our lunch break the 4.4 mile afternoon loop is to the west via Church End and Bowsers. For those who only want to do the morning loop, near the car park is the welcoming Rose & Crown pub and Beeches Nursery as after morning walk options.
Bring rations for mid-morning break, and lunch break if staying for the afternoon loop.
Car park: A small donation to Ashdon Baptist Church for use of their car park would be appreciated.
Note: Please check the website 24 hours before in case of late cancellation, eg due to weather conditions.
