Area short walk.
We leave Ashton heading up the Oldham Road past IKEA, relinquishing the Swedish meatballs, we continue thru the estate to fields and reach Daisy Nook (toilets?) Then a pleasant stroll through the woods back to the Oldham Road. Diving down towards Limehouse Farm on the left, we will arrive at the old railway line path taking us through Park Bridge, where, in a cosy arbor, I propose to declare lunch. Suitably refreshed, I hope, we then tackle the rigors of the climb up to Hartshead Pike, before diving down the steep path that comes out near the Billy Goat Pub. The fleshpots of Mossley await, or there are the more sober alternatives of buses back to Ashton or Staly, with the alternative of a further stroll down the hill to catch the train back to civilisation at Mossley Station. Approx 7.5 miles
No booking required, although we do ask that everyone carries an ICE card - we can supply if needed.
The walks will invariably involve ascent and descent, some of which may be steep. They will usually, depending on the weather, be soft and/or muddy, sometimes with ill defined tracks across fields or moorland - ensure you have appropriate footwear. Please consider your personal fitness and ability before attending the walk - if you're not sure, feel free to contact us for advice on the potential conditions, whilst the leader will base the walk on their own ability and may issue instructions where appropriate, you are ultimately responsible for your own safety. Please wear appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather, plan for the worst and hope for the best, bring any essentials and lunch.
