The walk starts from the large sculpture, Monarch of Auchmountain Glen and follows the path with fifteen staircases and eight bridges that were restored in 2013 by local community groups to create an ‘area of outstanding beauty’ along the gorge of Cartsburn. The waterfalls are beautiful.
Our path emerges near Whinhill Reservoir which we skirt to the edge of a golf course then head across country towards Overton and New Yetts Reservoirs. We walk a bit of the Greenock Cut to Loch Thom and follow farm tracks to Whitelees Cottage and Corlick Hill. We will have lunch at the foot of the hill which is a short climb with information on Iron Age and Roman settlement remains and reminders of WWII activities.. We are then go downhill on tussocky grass and rough paths back to the Whinhill Reservoir and back again to where we started the walk via Auchmoutain Glen's waterfalls and staircases.
There is one stile to cross at the foot of Corlick Hill. The staircases and bridges of the Auchmountain Glen Gorge may be slippery. Depending on the weather, boggy patches are probable. Boots, gaiters and poles are recommended.
