This linear walk is part of the Mull of Galloway Trail.
Please note that this linear walk has been reversed, taking account of recently available tide times, to allow beach walking (pebbly beach) and minimise road walking at the Ardwell end of the walk.
This is the second stage of the Mull of Galloway Trail. From the bus stop in Stranraer the route takes town paths for 1mile before crossing the railway line and heading through woodland for circa 1.5miles, then through fields for circa 1mile, then quiet roads for circa 3.5miles. At Clayshant Bridge the trail picks up the coastline section and continues along dunes and pebbly sands for circa 6 miles to finish at Ardwell. The paths through the fields and wooded areas could be muddy. There are some short steep ups and downs on the coastal section. Stout walking shoes/boots and poles are recommended. Drink and snacks for 3 stops. Please note: This walk has not been pre-recced as it is part of a recognised long-distance trail. Dynamic risk assessment will be undertaken on the day and the walk may be subject to diversion from the signposted trail if considered necessary. If the weather is good to us we should have some lovely views, especially as we will be walking towards and down the coastline.
Please remember to bring your bus pass if you have one.
This walk is part of our Away Weekend Event, and is fully subscribed by the Event attendees.
Linear walk, grade B+, a mix of leisurely & more strenuous sections., over a substantial distance. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
