The Mull of Galloway is 25 miles from the hotel and it takes 45 mins to drive.
We start the walk in front of the cafe terrace and go through the gate onto the cliff top. The grassy path keeps by the fence and the drop is unprotected. We pass a strange memorial called Kennedy’s cairn, just off the path. The coastal path continues to West Tarbert Bay, primarily down .
After West Tarbert Bay take footpath signed for West Cairngaan which continues along the grassy cliff tops by the fence. Soon reach the deep Mill Glen, curving inland the path descends to the floor of this grassy ravine. Left over a bridge to reach shoreline then right onto a rocky path. The path drops again into the next bay before a grassy climb leads up to a gate in a drystone dyke. Go through and aim diagonally right to head up a second smaller ravine. At the far end bear left to regain the cliff top and continue on the inland side of the fence.
Go through a field ( sheep ) and onto a grassy track towards West Cairngaan farm, then grassy path down into Cairngaan Glen and continue to the road, cross the road with care.
Grassy track leads down to pebbly shore and we are now on the east side of the peninsula, continue on coastal path until East Tarbet Bay and to the road. Follow road back to lighthouse.
