Overview

We start from the bottom of the hotel car park and are immediately on the Southern Upland Way (SUW) which we follow for 4 km. walk along a surfaced path, turn left adjacent to the golf course. After passing a striking modern house atop the cliff top path, with good views along the coast - Ireland can be seen on a good day. The path gradually descends to an inlet of Port Mora. Path heads round the back of the bay and follows coastline to reach next bay of Portsmouth Kale, Cross bridge and continue along the pebbly shore before heading behind a large rock to climb rocky steps with a chain hand rail, then a short section of path leads to a longer flight of rocky steps to reach cliff top.

Crossing open grazing land, keep following grassy path, going through a gate in stone wall and take care on next section as can be prone to small landslides. Follow path inland onto a hillock overlooking the lighthouse.

Follow road inland for 2.5 km until we reach T junction where we leave the SUW. Turn right along B738 for 2 km until reach the huge gates to Duns key Gardens. Turn onto a path through trees until we reach road at top end of Portpatrick, with pavement which leads us back to hotel.
