Overview

The walk starts from a layby near Bowes on the A66 and walks over paths with sometimes boggy gound, and including part of the Pennine Way.

In fact, part of the walk passes the former home of “The Daughter of The Dales”, Hannah Hauxwell. For anyone who doesn't recall who Hannah was, she was the subject of a TV documentary in 1973 called 'Too Long a Winter'. It was made by Yorkshire Television and produced by Barry Cockcroft and chronicled the harsh conditions of farmers in the High Pennines in winter.
