An attractive circular walk offering great views over Bath with some hidden spots plus an interesting section of the Canal. The route follows both well marked quiet lanes and good footpaths across some fields and along the canal, so there will be some muddy conditions in places. From the start place near Bathampton Lane heading back towards Sydney Gardens along the Canal. Then climbing steadily up towards the Bath Golf club and Sham Castle city viewpoint. Moving on to skirt Bath University premises and at the top of Bathwick Hill we cross over towards the top of Widcombe Hill and follow footpaths around the old disused Quarry to end further down Widcombe Hill. Crossing the road and then several fields to Smallcombe Wood (NT) and then onto two hidden Cemeteries. From here we walk back up to Bathwick Field (NT) where again great views over the city. Continuing back down to Widcombe canal basin and locks and then to the River Avon. Following the Avon back towards the city centre and eventually returning to the starting point via the canal towpath. Some fields may have cows or sheep in and care to be taken when walking alongside the river and canal where some muddy conditions exist.
