Beacon Batch and Blackdown

West Mendip Walkers moderate 7 mile circular walk from Tynings Farm (BS40 7XU). We start by going up to BEACON BATCH proceeding along the ridge to the wireless masts and on to the roman fort. The route continues through the Blackdown Nature Reserve to Velvet bottom  down through a  shallow valley where all the collected storm water caused the Cheddar Flood in the 60’s. We then turn towards/through Longwood Nature Reserve and an walk to Ashridge farm and back to Tynings. Most of the walk is on well marked lanes with a couple of short road stretches and a few fields with cattle/sheep in them. Total ascent approx 170m (561ft).
