Overview

The route will head east from the Beacon Hill car park to Old Burghclere before turning north east towards Earlstone Manor then east, skirting Ecchinswell but staying long enough for a coffee stop, and on to the outskirts of Kingsclere. We then head up onto the gallops, where a lunch stop with views (hopefully) to the north will be the reward for the steepish climb. Joining the Wayfarers Walk we pass along the top of Watership Down to Ladle Hill, with views now to the south, before descending into old Burghclere and retracing our route back to the car park.

The going is definitely "soft" but passable along a couple of the early sections. There are a number of gates but no styles. Most of the ascent is completed in one steepish path up onto the Wayfarers Walk. There are a number of short road sections to link footpaths where the usual care will be required.
