This 8.3-mile walk is part of the Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival and is leaving from Biddulph Grange Country Park car park at 9.30am. Note this is NOT the National Trust car park'.
The Route: we walk up through the northern edge of the Country Park along the stream before taking fields paths and track through the riding school and down to the road and then into Fold Lane. We enter the Clough which is full of May colours including many bluebells and follow the waters up, emerging by the Talbot pub. We then head for the top of the Troughstones before re-entering the Country Park at a different point. We wander past the bottom end of the lake and then out of the park, across the A527 and we take paths to Marsh Green. Then south along the Biddulph Valley Way before leaving to walk over Gillow Heath and paths leading up to Nick I’ the’ Hill. We follow the Gritstone trail along Congleton edge with views over the Cheshire Plain before coming down past Higher Whitemoor farm, and field paths before re-crossing the A527 at Bailey's Bank and thence back to the car park
As the walk re-enters the country park it is possible to curtail the walk after 4 miles should any walkers wish to do so. Walkers therefore have the option of doing a 4 mile or an 8 mile walk as part of the Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival 2024
Walkers from other groups are always welcome, as are non-members wanting to sample walking with our friendly group of ramblers. Non-members are allowed up to three sampler walks with rambler groups before they would be expected to join the ramblers.
