Strenuous

16.9km / 10.5mi
Ascent:
579.1m / 1900ft

circular

Starting from the Blaen-y-cwm car park/picnic area (OS) in the Grwyne Fawr valley we climb to Pen y Gadair Fawr (800m), then cross open moorland to Waun Fach, the highest peak in the Black Mountains at 811m.  Continuing along the ridge we pass Pen y Manllwyn and join the Cambrian Way before returning along the Twyn Talycefn ridge on the East side of the beautiful Grwyne Fawr valley looking down on the reservoir. (we have the option of returning down the valley in the event that the weather closes in).

Having viewed Waun Fach from different directions now is our chance to look back on everything below us.  Sounds great!

Please note this walk may be moved to the 4th Oct in the event that the weather is poor on the 2nd

Bring lunch,  Wild toilet arrangements.

The walk starts from Blaen-y-cwm car park/picnic area (O/S SO 25245 28472 ). Google search code XW26+26 Abergavenny. What three words ///screening,slugs,wrenching. Now just to confuse, the car park start point has a different name on Google map to that on OS maps. So beware! In reality, and the sign at the entrance says so, it is Mynydd Du Car Park And Picnic Area.
