West Mendip Walkers 7.9 mile moderate circular walk from Shepton Mallet's Somerset Council offices Cannards Grave car park (BA4 5BT) adjacent to Collet Park. From this start point we will head across and down through the town towards Bowlish joining a footpath (FP) alongside the River Sheppey. At the end of this FP we cross the A361 and join ta FP passing Darshill and Titwell Wood until we descend into Croscombe village. Once again we cross the A361 and follow a FP entering Ham Woods. Here we continue up through the woods to the impressive Ham Wood viaduct. We now join part of the old Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway line. After taking in the view we then continue on this newly restored route through Windsor Hill tunnel along tracks and FP’s until we reach the bigger impressive Charlton viaduct. We then make our way back to the start point through the popular Collet Park. This walk is dog friendly but we will pass through fields with livestock. There are a variety of paths from street pavements to muddy FPs that may even have some surface water, since we will be walking alongside streams and rivers. Total ascent of 1000ft/305M.
