The walk will start from Brading Station Car Park (£1.50 all day) and go west along the north side of the downs passing Nunwell Farm. After crossing over Ashley Down the route is still west on the south side of the ridge to Knighton before going south to Newchurch where there will be a lunch stop at the Pedallers Cafe. Then it is south east through two nature reserves at Alverstone and across a golf course into Lake and Sandown. Drivers will then need to travel from Sandown Station to Brading Station to recover their cars (Single Fare £1.50). The passengers can go on to the overnight accommodation. Explorer Map OL29.
IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS AS A DAY WALK - let the leader know and the best option is to go across from Portsmouth Hoverport at 8.30 to Ryde, walk to Ryde Esplanade Station (7 minutes) and take the 9.14 train arriving at Brading at 9.25.
This is Walk One of Two. The leader will try to organise car sharing so that the 8.00am ferry from Southampton to East Cowes Red Funnel Ferry can be taken arriving at 9.00am (breakfast available on board) . It is a 25 minute drive to Brading for the start of the walk at 10.00. The walk start will await the train from Ryde Pier Head to Brading due in at 9.58. The proposed overnight accommodation is the Broadway Park Hotel at Sandown on Booking.com. Buffet breakfast can be booked on arrival. You can of course stay anywhere else if you like but try and get somewhere within a short walking distance. Explorer Map OL29.
