This 6-mile walk starts from the car park on the Ridgeway at Bury Down. We shall follow the Ridgeway in a NW direction for a mile or so, before heading NE downhill past Upper Farm on our way to Chilton, crossing the A34 via the pedestrian footbridge. After a stop for elevenses in Chilton churchyard, we shall make our way south through the village and on up to the top of Gore Hill, where we shall re-cross the A34 via the tunnel and head back to Bury Down along the Ridgeway. Given fine weather, there will be some good views over the surrounding countryside.
There are no stiles on this walk, and much of the route is fairly flat. There are just two hills, one down into the valley in the first half of the walk, and the other back up to the Ridgeway towards the end. Given the time of year, there is bound to be some mud around, not to mention possible inclement weather, so please bring sensible clothing and footwear. Please also bring refreshments for the mid-walk break. There is no limit on numbers for this walk, but if you'd like to join us, please book your place online.
