This is a linear walk of 14miles from Pontypool to Abergavenny and return to our vehicles by train.
The route is part of the Cambrian trail and takes us from where we begin at Pontypool Park and along the ridge to the Blorenge, overlooking Abergavenny. On the way we will visit the Grotto and the Folly tower. From the Blorenge we begin our descent via the lovely lake in the Punchbowl and then following paths through the fields and woodland before reaching the Mon & Brecon canal which we pass under using the tunnel. We then cross the Usk river and make our way through the town to the station and the return train to Pontypool, (or Cardiff, Cwmbran or Newport if members intend taking the train)
We will meet at 10:00 at Pontypool Leisure centre in Pontypool Park. There is plenty of free parking at the centre. (If you are coming by train from Cardiff, I'm unable to give you the times to Pontypool station as the timetable for April is not published yet. I will update this info in the new year. Its a short walk from the station to Pontypool Park and the leisure centre. the return train from Abergavenny is again TBC.
This will be a strenuous walk and taken at a reasonably quick pace. Please ensure you have sufficient drinks and food.
