Overview

Cambridge Central Mosque

This walk will start with a guided tour of Cambridge Central Mosque on Mill Road, followed by a liner walk from Mill Road to Waterbeach along the river.  If you are booked onto the tour of the mosque please bring a donation.

Please NOTE. If you have not booked a place for the tour of the mosque beforehand, you can still come for the walk which will start at round 11:15am outside the Mosque.

Mosque Tour:

The tour starts with a visit to the Islamic gardens. We then pass through the portico and atrium, via the ablution areas, cleansed and ready to enter the grand prayer hall

We will get an overview of the mosque's eco-friendly design and sustainable architecture. Cambridge Central Mosque is Europe first eco-mosque and has a zero carbon footprint.

The Cambridge Central Mosque has received several prestigious awards for its innovative and sustainable design. It won multiple Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) East Awards in 2021, including the RIBA East Award, RIBA East Project Architect of the Year, RIBA East Client of the Year, and RIBA East Building of the Year.

Dress Code:

When visiting the Cambridge Central Mosque, it's important to observe a respectful dress code:

  • Modest clothing that covers your arms and legs is required
  • Women should bring a scarf to cover their heads before entering the prayer hall
  • Shoes must be removed before entering certain areas, so consider bringing a spare pair of socks

These guidelines help ensure that all visitors show respect for the mosque's religious and cultural significance.

The tour is approximately one hour long.

Walk:

Our liner walk will start from Mill Road though Coldhams Common, then Stourbridge Common, following the River Cam path, passing through Ditton Meadows.

Follow the river path as it winds through the countryside, passing Baits Bite Lock.

Continue along the river until we reach Waterbeach where you can get a train back to Cambridge.

This walk is lead by Sushma and Jane.

If you have questions regarding the mosque visit, please contact Sushma on 07975846715.

Question on the walk, please contact Jane on 07506846653.
