Leaving the Car Park, we ascend over Allt Lwyd to the Cairn on Cwar y Gigfran. Below on the way North, across the Plateau, is a Cairn, just below, marking the Crash Site of Wellington 1C R1465. We then swing East parallel to the ascent Route, through Carn Pica and then descend back to the Talybont Reservoir. From Allt Lwyd there is a saddle about 15 feet wide with a drop off on either side; it is not sheer. Apart from the Plateau, the walk is all ascent and descent, making a lot of the walk G4. This makes up for the shortness of the route. There is no scrambling but also, not very well-defined paths. We will have great views, or a swirling cloud base: it is potluck really. Definitely an interesting mountain walk! If there are any Thunderstorms Forecast, I will have to cancel it, as it is so exposed.
Take sticks and full waterproof clothing even if it is a fine day. The weather and wind are often exceptional up there and change quite quickly: I don’t recommend shorts.
