Overview

From Charing village we pass the recently restored Archbishop's Palace, which dates back to the 13thC.  The Palace was visited by a number of royal guests, prominent among them being Henry VII and Henry VIII.  From there we ascend up to the Challock Gliding Club, where if open we can stop for coffee, before continuing on to the North Downs Way.  Returning to Charing we pass Pett Place, which was built in the 16thC and heavily modified in the 18thC, and was once the home of comedian, Bob Mortimer.
