Just northwest of Clitheroe the walks on offer today could take you to Downham, and up to Pendle Hill, or cross the river Ribble to the villages on the edge of Bowland. Starting this morning from the bus stop on Crossens Roundabout at 7.50am, and calling at all pick-up points going south.
There will be three walks available with details circulated on the coach. As the daylight hours get shorter so do the walks, but will still range from easy to the more strenuous. With both pace and distance depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Derek Cook - .8.5 miles with a bit of up and down. We loop east to cross over a very old stone, and interesting, footbridge (not one for the faint hearted) on the way to Sawley Abbey. Then north along Rodhill Lane (track) before heading for Beacon Hill. Returning along Green Lane and the bridge over the Ribble back to Chatburn.
B Walk Leader - Carol Gummerson - Around 7.5 miles. Crossing the Ribble towards Grindleton, but going around it and up Green Lane. Then turning west to West Bradford. With the return along the bank of the river or roadside pavements should the riverside path be under water.
C Walk Leader - Chris Bennett - Following the very wet (underfoot) recci this walk of around 6 miles will take in the village of Grindleton and the remains of Sawley Abbey. Keeping to lanes and roadside footpaths where possible to avoid the mud.
