Overview

The walk is quite varied, including canal paths, woodland paths and some moorland walking above Hemel.  Much of the land is maintained by the Boxmoor Trust, including the Hay Wood Nature Reserve near Felden which we pass through.

There are some short ups-and-downs on the walk, none too challenging, but with one relatively steep climb early on in the walk to leave the canal path at Bourne End, passing over the busy A41 via a footbridge and ascending to the nature reserve.  One path through woodland is a bridle way and can get quite muddy if conditions have been wet, otherwise generally good under foot.

The walk crosses a couple of busy roads (the B4505 from Chesham and the A4251 from Bourne End) so care is needed.  Just the one wide step-stile with hand-rail on the walk.
