Outstanding views and interesting places of history on this circular walk which takes in Chepstow Castle, Tidenham Tunnel, Tintern Abbey, Eagles Nest viewpoint, and the giants cave and grotto on the Piercefield Estate to name just a few! This is a varied walk, ranging from level gradients on the Greenway old railway line, to more challenging steeper sections with uneven ground as we ascend to Eagles Nest viewpoint and unfenced sheer drops on the Piercefield section. No bright lights allowed in Tidenham tunnel, it is dimly lit to protect the bats.
*Note - The Tidenham tunnel is 1km long, it is important to keep to the left and walk single file as a group as quietly as possible through the tunnel not to disturb nesting bats or get in the way of oncoming cyclists. There will be no alternative route offered.
Dogs welcome but must be on a short lead on the Greenway and through the tunnel, as it is shared with cyclists. Also recommended to keep on lead due to sheer drops on the Piercefield section.
Parking is free, however car sharing recommended for our regular members, travelling from Swansea area due to the distance to the start point (it is worth it!) Please text walk leader with any questions.
