Chess Valley Walk - Chesham to Rickmansworth

Start time: 09:45

Estimated finish time: 13:30

Difficulty: Moderate

Distance: ~11.25miles/ 18km

Ascent: ~200ft

Meeting:  Chesham Train Station

Walk leader: Liam 07930 954580

Join the Chiltern Young Walkers for a linear walk from Chesham to Rickmansworth along the renowned Chess Valley. This will be the first of a 2-part walk which goes from Chesham to Uxbridge with the option of finishing or joining at Rickmansworth.

Please note that due to the nature of it being a 2-part walk, there will be limited scope for us to be able to wait for anyone who is running late.

This walk is relatively flat and will likely be slightly faster paced than usual, but do not let that put you off and please drop me a message should you have any concerns or queries before joining.

The walk follows the Chess Valley and passes through several points of interest (such as old mills, a manor and tomb along with wetlands and much more).

This walk will finish in Rickmansworth where you can either leave or join those of us doing the second leg to Uxbridge for lunch. Depending on time, we may be able to stop for food at a local pub but it is more likely we just have time for a pub drink so be sure to plan accordingly.

It is likely to be wet underfoot in parts and there is the risk of a small patch of bogland. Appropriate hiking footwear and trousers (e.g. not jeans) are recommended. As are waterproofs, in case the needarise.

Dogs are welcome, however we ask owners to make sure they are kept on their leads at all times and are well behaved.

Travel wise:

It is up to you where you decide to park. Chesham, Rickmansworth and Uxbridge are all on the Metropolitan line and therefore you can either park at, or near, your chosen finish location (Rickmansworth or Uxbridge) and get the train to the start point or park at the start (Chesham) and get the train back after.

Chesham Parking

Water Meadow - £3.80 for the day (recommended)

Albany Place - £4.20 for the day
