Overview

Starting at the Jack and Jill windmill free car park this 7 mile walk will see us walking through open fields until we reach the Chatrri Indian War Memorial where we will stop for a short break. Carrying on we then walk for a mile or so along a very quiet country lane to Lower Steadham where we will skirt around the farm there and once again cross open fields until we reach the South Downs Way near Ditchling Beacon. It's then 2 miles from here along the SDW back to the start of the walk. Depending on the weather we will enjoy stunning views from our vantage point on the top of the South Downs.

This is an undulating route some on chalky paths. We will also encounter some muddy places whilst crossing fields. Boots are a must and walking poles are also recommended. The top of the South Downs are very exposed so dress accordingly.

There will be two breaks, a shorter one at the Chatrri Memorial and then a lunch break . Bring snacks / a picnic.

Please note that the route allows a couple of places for me to shorten it should the weather become a concern.
