Set between the North and South Downs, the High Weald is one of England's finest landscapes. A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, its hundreds of acres of woods, heaths and farmland are spread across three counties. The walk goes North from Haywards Heath through quiet countryside to join the Sussex Ouse Valley Way, stopping to visit and admire the much-photographed Ouse Valley Viaduct. The viaduct, built in 1838, spans 500 metres, with 37 arches. "probably the most elegant viaduct in Britain". The walk can be muddy when wet.
We will take a train to Haywards Heath crossing the viaduct by rail, before returning on foot to Balcombe - making this a linear circular (or circular linear) walk.
An undulating walk with 2 stiles,
