This walk of 5.25 miles takes us around Coventry City Centre and focuses on its historic buildings that tell the story of its development over the last 700 years. Highlights include:
- Spon Street with its medieval artisans cottages
- St Mary’s Priory (excavated remains)
- Ruins of Coventry Cathedral (destroyed by bombing in 1940)
- The new Coventry Cathedral that opened in 1962
- St Mary’s Guildhall
- Holy Trinity Church
- Upper Precinct – 1960’s modern shopping centre
- The ancient city wall remains with 2 surviving gatehouses
- Lychgate Cottages (now a Wetherspoons)
- Charterhouse – a medieval monastic house
- London Road Cemetery
- and we will also take a peep at Lady Godiva
Most of the walking is on tarmac or paved walkways but there is one field to cross. We will pause for a snack at a convenient point and there will also be opportunities to buy food and drink during and after the walk. There are several busy roads to cross. Please take care.
