Along the route there are numerous places of historic interest. We cross the Derwent bridge and climb uphill: this is quite steep but the route is eased by a set of well-made steps and the reward is a beautiful view over the Derwent Valley. We walk through Alison Uttley’s countryside and through the Woodland Trust’s Bow Wood. Then down to Lea where Florence Nightingale’s family mill was served by a canal branch. Toilets at High Peak Junction. An easy walk then along the Cromford Canal back to Cromford Wharf.
