Due to the weather this walk is being shorten and will mostly stay on low level, because of the warning for high winds
A high level Dartmoor walk covering the open moorland to the north of Two Bridges. The walk can be extended or shortened depending on the day's weather, the conditions underfoot and the speed we cover the ground, but for the moment I'm assuming the route will be as follows:
Two Bridges to the Devonport Leat and follow the leat up to its starting point on the West Dart River, then
the three Beardown Tors
Lydford Tor
Crow Tor
Cross the West Dart River then climb to Higher White Tor
Longaford Tor
Both of the Littaford Tors
Crockern Tor
and descend westwards to pick up the track that leads back to Two Bridges.
One possible extension is to visit Lower White Tor, which would increase the distance to 11 miles.
As we walk northwards alongside the Devonport Leat during the morning there will be great views across the West Dart Valley towards Wistman's Wood and Longaford Tor.
It's an early start at 09:30 from the Two Bridges Hotel car park. There is a parking charge of £5 for the day, although this is refundable if you spend £15 or more on food and drink afterwards. Alternatively, there is a small, free car park opposite the hotel on the other side of the road, but as it's the Christmas / New Year period this is likely to become full.
I'll be driving to the walk from Exeter and will have spaces for up to three people. If you would like to come on the walk and live in the Exeter area and need a lift, then contact me on
