Overview

Following the Annandale Way we start from the car park at the southern end of Moffat following the River Annan northwards for a mile or so  before a joining a quiet road. The road peters out and we begin our ascent proper eventually before  crossing the A701. A short wooded path then leads to a climb up the western flanks of Ericstane Hill before dropping down and following the A701 for a very short distance until we start our serious ascent up towards the trig point on Annandale Hill. We then follow an undulating route eastwards before starting to descend along the waters of the Tweedhope Burn. At Ericstane we walk along a long section of quiet road, rejoining our original route just north of Bridgend. The bus stop is just across form the Balmoral Hotel in Moffat where there might be time for refreshments before catching the bus at 18.25, arriving in Glasgow about 20.00hrs.

If you would like to come on the walk please contact the leader, Frances A, in advance by email but not before August 6, (leader away until 05/08/24).

This is a strenuous walk at a brisk pace which we will need to maintain in order to catch the 18.25 bus back to Glasgow. We will have a short coffee/snack stop and a longer late lunch stop at about 2.30. The middle section has a a number of steep ascents, the reward, with luck, is tremendous views views into the Beef Tub and across to Skiddaw in the Northern Lakes. Some of the descents are also quite steep. Walking poles useful, and walking boots with a good grip essential. Bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks including something to nibble on the bus home.
