From the entrance to the woods on Mill Road we follow a track with Cadoxton River on our left. We then go through some kissing gates to enter the Woodland Trust site, passing a converted Mill and Dinas Powys Castle. A late C12 Norman Castle built by the Somery family, only the walls remain.
Leaving the Woodland site we have views of the sleepy village of Michaelston Le Pit. Later we reach West Hill Wood and follow a woodland track. (Thanks to Valeways path clearance).
Continuing to Leckwith woods then Leckwith bridge. We can see the lower bridge which is medieval. We then follow the river Ely to join Penarth Road, following the road for a short time until we see a footpath to Llandough, then make our way back through fields and woodland to Dinas Powys.
There are a few climbs, nothing too strenuous, also some stiles which may be muddy. Bring poles if you use them. Will have the usual coffee and lunch stops, with maybe another drink stop.
Hope you can join us.
