Venturing over the border into Wiltshire, we'll be starting out from the pretty village of Downton. We'll head out to Standlynch and Trafalgar Park before crossing the beautiful water meadows which leads us to Charlton All Saints.
We then cross the main road and start a gentle climb up Clearbury Down, rewarded by some lovely countryside views. The footpath then skirts the site of Clearbury Ring, an Iron Age Hill Fort, before descending and joining tracks which take us back to Charlton where we pick up the Avon Valley Path back to Downton.
As a novice walk leader I’d love you to join my walk but please ensure you:-
- Choose the right walk; the walk should be within your abilities
- Wear appropriate clothing/footwear
- Look after yourselves and others, acting responsibly so that everyone has a great walk
There are no stiles; some field walking; some sections may become muddy after heavy rain. We have to cross the main A338 - there is a central pedestrian reservation on the route back but NOT on the route out - it was VERY busy on the recce, so please take extra care when crossing.
There are public toilets next to the Memorial Hall in Memorial Gardens, on The Borough.
Please bring provisions for a refreshment break and a picnic lunch and plenty of fluids.
