Overview

An interesting walk exploring the headland of Dungeness, one of the largest expanses of shingle in Europe, (possibly the world). Despite the area being very flat, some of the shingle paths can be energy-sapping. The route passes a several points of interest including the lighthouses, Polish Spitfire pilot's memorial and the Denge Acoustic Mirrors, a pre-radar early warning system aimed at detecting invading enemy aircraft. Bring hot drinks and picnic lunch. Possibility of lift from Beckley or arranged pick-up en-route.
