The walk, which will start at the Leaderfoot (Drygrange) bridge will follow the Earlston Diamond Jubilee Path northward on the east side of the Leader water, and return to the start point walking south from Earlston via the Leader Water Path on the west side of the river. This is mostly on good paths with a little minor road walking; there are a number of flights of good steps on the path.
The walk follows the Leader Valley which is densely forested and it is a particularly attractive walk in the autumn. It passes Redpath Village which was founded in 12th century, and Cowdenknowes house which stands on the site of the 12th century Douglas stronghold.
