Meet outside the front of Ely railway station for a 11:15 departure, and a 6 mile circular walk which heads south, reaching the village of Little Thetford at the halfway point.

At Little Thetford there is a possible toilet stop at the village hall, and shortly after that some picnic benches where we will eat our packed lunches.

At the end of the walk the pubs in Ely will be calling, although it's completely optional whether you answer that call. For those answering "yes", the closest and most obvious choice would be the Cutter Inn on the riverside.

Anyone getting the train from Cambridge should buy a return to Ely and catch the 10:50, which is also the 10:54 from Cambridge North, and which gets into Ely at 11:06.

Those driving have several options for parking:
* look for free parking on the streets off Back Hill or Broad Street - at this time on a Sunday morning there is a good chance you will find a space, but please allow extra time to do this then walk to the railway station;
* there is also free parking at the Ship Lane car park (CB7 4BB) and the Forehill car park (entry from Broad Street, postcode CB7 4AJ), but in either case please then allow 10-15 minutes to walk to the railway station;
* Ely railway station car park costs £6 for the day;
* Tesco, right next to the railway station, allows free parking for up to three hours, which might be enough for the walk, but probably not for a subsequent pub visit too.
