Starting from Enfield Lock we walk into Essex to visit Epping Forest before finishing at Buckhurst Hill.
On route we visit Enfield Island village, Gunpowder park with its unusual boardwalk over Osier marsh, following part of London Loop to climb up to Lippitts Hill with great views over the upper Lee valley and north into Herts. On arriving in Epping Forest at High Beech we can stop for lunch at the 'forest' church of Holy Innocents (which we can visit by special arrangement) or walk onto the Kings Oak pub (10 mins) where toilets and drinks are available from outside cafe. Please bring picnic to eat in one of these locations. The second half of the walk will visit the more hilly parts of Epping Forest on a variety of trails, there are some small streams to cross mostly on bridges which could have muddy areas around them. Finally we leave the forest at Warren wood to follow quiet residential streets to Buckhurst Hill central line station.
There is always mud in Epping Forest at this time of year, wear proper boots (not trainers) and bring a walking pole if you normally use one.
All travel within Freedom Pass area use Greater Anglia from Liverpool St (10:12) or Tottenham Hale (10:25) stations.
